Dear Neighbor,

Naturally, those who run and serve in city government begin with a desire to make the city a better place to live. In addition, I am running for City Council to bring integrity and trust back into City government. So, what else makes my candidacy stand apart from that of the incumbent’s?

It’s simple:

I believe Ward Four residents deserve to be represented by a Council member who listens, responds, and is easily accessible to residents. Although we are at a financial cross-roads, I don’t believe residents need to choose between funding basic services, the environment, or rebuilding our infrastructure. Instead, we need to allocate the tax revenue we already have differently.

Let’s continue to make this a city for all its people!

  • I’ll work to reshape the city’s retiree pension & health care programs.
  • With my experience as an economist I will work to craft a budget that protects our basic services and parkland, and rebuilds our streets & bridges.
  • I’ll work side-by-side with Fourth Ward homeowners and renters to make Ann Arbor a more vibrant, safer community.

If you want responsive representation based on integrity...

If you want a council member with progressive values...

If you want a fresh perspective and practical solutions...

Mike Anglin - 5th Ward City Councilman and Hatim

"Mike Anglin said he was impressed with Elhady’s outreach efforts and knowledge of city-political dynamics...Hatim would bring a focus to City Council that’s not there now.”--Michigan Daily, October 5, 2009.

Alone on stage Thursday night, Elhady opened by explaining why he's running for office: "I was born in Grosse Pointe to parents from Yemen. They came here to provide opportunities for their children," he said. "My dad encouraged us to contribute to political activism....I have nothing but respect for my opponent's years on council, but more important than incumbency, 4th Ward voters deserve to be represented by a council member who listens, responds and is accessible."—Hatim Elhady at the League of Women Voter's Debate, AnnArbor.com coverage, October 22nd
